Dr. Mahmood Hai
Dr. Hai was born in India and completed his early education at
St.Xavier’s High school graduating in the first division of Cambridge
University level A. He earned his medical degree with distinction in
Anatomy and Surgery from the Prince of Wales Medical College in 1969.
In 1973 he completed his Masters in Surgery (M.S.) degree from Patna
University and proceeded to USA for higher studies.
Dr. Hai did a two-year Surgical residency in Boston and then completed
his Urology residency from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1978.
He was in the practice of Urology for 42 years in Michigan and is known
as a leading expert in the field of prostatic diseases. He is internationally
known for his pioneer work on the Green Light laser devices. Having
done the initial clinical trials, he received FDA approval for this
technology in 2000. Dr. Hai has been very active in teaching this
procedure and has trained a large number of physicians nationally and
around the world. He is often called upon and has performed surgery on
various diplomats, celebrities and world leaders. He has been an expert
witness for medico-legal and patent cases.
Dr. Hai has a long list of publications, presentations and achievements.
He was awarded Fellowship by the International College of Surgeons
and an Honorary Fellowship to the Association of Surgeon of India. In
2015 he was awarded the prestigious Dr. Edwin L. Thirlby award for the
best presentation at the annual meeting of the American Urological
Association, North Central section.
He has been on the Advisory Board of Endo Pharmaceutical, American
Medical System, Boston Scientific Corporation, Storz Corporation, Bayer
Pharmaceutical, Photocure, Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, Indiana
University , Chairman of the Board, Unity Productions Foundation,
Michigan Educational Council. Nagamia Institute of Islamic Medicine &
Science.
He recently published a book: WISDOM COMES which has gained
popularity both among professionals and non-professionals.
Dr. Hai retired from active practice as Senior Urologist with
Comprehensive Urology, a division of Michigan Healthcare
Professionals. He is currently Medical Director of the Surgical Institute
of Michigan. Being a community activist, he is involved with many
projects involving services to the community for the betterment of
humanity. He is a happy family member with his wife Annette, four
children and eight grandchildren.

To promote its purpose:
- It will establish, maintain and nurture a library both traditional and digital on the subject of Islamic Medicine.
- It will also promote research, translation and publication on this subject in the US and worldwide.
- It holds conferences, lectures, courses and discussions on this subject in the US and worldwide.
- It will endeavour to establish curricula for utilization in medical schools for educating faculty as well as students.
The History of NIIMS
Nagamia Institute of Islamic Medicine and Sciences (NIIMS) was originally named International Institute of Islamic Medicine (IIIM). The Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) mandated the formation of IIIM at an extra ordinary Council meeting of its Executive in Orlando Florida, in 1992.
The purpose, for which IIIM was formed, was to collect, collate, catalogue, annotate, research and disseminate information about the History of Islamic Medicine. Islamic Medicine was the Medicine that developed and was practiced during the Islamic period of Civilization. IIIM was also to research and publicize the multitudinous contributions that Islamic Medicine made to the development of Modern Medicine.

Building on this foundation, NIIMS hopes to continue this work, while focusing on introducing the next generation to this rich history of invention and discovery, not only in medicine, but in other scientific fields as well.

- Has gathered and housed a unique and a special collections Library, on the subject of History of Islamic Medicine (click Library).
- Created a traveling exhibit on History of Islamic Medicine, which has exhibited in cities nationally and internationally, disseminating information and increasing awareness about the subject
- Published monographs and occasional papers for distribution (click Medicine in Islam, Prophetic Medicine etc).
- Created a dynamic interactive website for reference, research and interactive exchange of information on the subject (www.iiim.org).
- Is developing a curriculum for Medical schools for courses on History of Islamic Medicine (click curriculum and courses).
- Has a proposal for the design and construction of a Museum and Library of History of Islamic Medicine

Dr. Nagamia is the founder/chairman of International Institute of Islamic Medicine (IIIM) founded in 1992,(www.iiim.org), a subsidiary organization of IMANA, devoted to research and development of “History of Islamic Medicine”. In 2019 the IIIM was renamed Nagamia Institute of Islamic Medicine and Science (NIIMS) by the Board of Directors of IIIM to honor the founder. www.niims.org Dr Nagamia has been actively involved in establishing and volunteering for a number of Islamic Organizations locally, nationally as well as internationally. He is a member of Founder’s Committee for Islamic Society of North American (ISNA) the largest Islamic Organization in North America. He has served as President of Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) in 1982, and was Editor-in-Chief of Journal of the Islamic Medical Association of North America (JIMA) for five years. He is the Vice Chairman of International Society of History of Islamic Medicine (ISHIM) based in Doha, Qatar. www.ishim.net Dr. Nagamia has published and presented numerous papers on the “History of Islamic Medicine”. He is also publishing a book on this subject. Dr. Marium Husain, MD, MPH
Dr. Marium Husain, MD, MPH is a hematology/oncology fellow at The Ohio State University James Comprehensive Cancer Center. She graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed a residency in Internal Medicine. She recently worked as an oncology hospitalist at the James. She is also the Vice President of the national non-profit, IMANA (Islamic Medical Association of North America). |

Dr. Shakaib completed his Medical degree from India and subsequently finished his Internal Medicine training and then specialized in Nephrology from University Of Chicago Apart from spending time with his family Dr Shakaib saw the need for bringing Muslim physicians in Illinois on a platform to Help the needy and so Formed and became the Co Founder and Treasurer of CMMA (Chicago Muslim Medical Alliance ) also a Board Member of DAANA(Deccan Alumni Association Of North America) and NIIMS (Nagamia institute Of Islamic Medicine Sciences) He has organized many successful unifying events for Physicians in Chicago and organized CME Events In Partnership with University of Chicago |
